iPhone Voice Recognition in the Works

iPhone users might soon be able to enjoy voice-recognition capability thanks to AT&T's efforts in developing a web-based platform known as Speech Mashups. This platform will send your speech to a remote server, translating commands to control your handset. Being web-based, the iPhone isn't the only device able to take advantage of such technology as it will also be compatible with majority of other browser-equipped AT&T handsets, wireless devices and TV set-top boxes - as long as there is an Internet connection. Cell phone owners ought to look into a good and cheap data plan if they're planning to make use of this frequently. Unfortunately, one major drawback for iPhone owners would be the inability for Speech Mashup to perform voice-dialing since it works with web-coded apps only, ruling out native apps on the iPhone.
